## Meet Amanda

Amanda thought she was eating “pretty healthy”—yogurt and fruit for breakfast, a granola bar between clients, and pasta or chicken with potatoes and broccoli most evenings. She wasn’t eating a ton of sugar, so she never expected her breakouts to be linked to blood sugar problems.

But her energy dipped mid-morning, she got hangry between meals, and her chin acne never went away, no matter how many cleansers or treatments she tried.

When we mapped out her meals and ran blood work, the answer was clear: Amanda’s skin was reacting to daily blood sugar swings.

## The Blood Sugar–Acne Connection

Unstable blood sugar doesn’t always mean diabetes. Many women with acne experience signs of insulin resistance or reactive hypoglycemia —without ever being told it’s connected to their skin.

- High blood sugar spikes trigger inflammation and excess sebum (oil) production
- Insulin can increase androgen hormones (like testosterone), which lead to clogged pores and cystic acne
- Crashes in blood sugar can stress the adrenal system, leading to more hormonal chaos

This rollercoaster can repeat all day, especially if you’re skipping meals or relying on caffeine to push through.

## Are You On the Blood Sugar Rollercoaster?

Look for signs like:

- Energy dips between meals
- Cravings for sweets or carbs
- Feeling shaky or irritable when hungry
- Needing caffeine to stay focused
- Breakouts around the chin, jawline, or cheeks

If this sounds familiar, your skin might be trying to tell you something.

## How to Balance Blood Sugar for Clearer Skin

You don’t need a special diet—just a smarter one. Start with these foundational steps:

1. Eat Protein First

Always include protein at every meal—this slows sugar absorption and keeps insulin steady.

2. Don’t Skip Meals

Going too long without eating triggers cortisol and blood sugar crashes.

3. Go for Fibre + Fats

Pair carbs with fibre (like veggies, oats, flax) and healthy fats (like avocado, olive oil, or nuts).

4. Try a Post-Meal Walk

A short 10–15 min walk after meals can help reduce blood sugar spikes naturally.

## Not Just Diet: Test, Don’t Guess

In the [Breakthrough Acne Program](/breakthroughacneprogram), we test blood sugar and insulin markers through routine bloodwork. I want you to see how your body is responding—not just guess based on symptoms.
